If you've ever spoken with me, you know that I am a big proponent of video. I'm always talking about how it is the ultimate persuader and how nothing else can get your message across. That's why we always recommend to our clients that they use the most watched media network in the world, YouTube.

Since YouTube has so many visitors (according to YouTube statistics, over 1,300,000,000), and since (according to other widely published statistics) one out of every three people signing on to the Internet are headed to YouTube, why are less than ten percent of small businesses utilizing this platform to grow their businesses?

My guess is they are stifled by the technology, because even though it is pretty darn easy to get a video on YouTube, it doesn't mean everyone can do it, and it certainly doesn't mean that everyone will do it well.

Preparing for that video shoot is like preparing for a first impression. After all, it may very well be the first impression someone has of your business. You should always strive to represent yourself in the best light possible, but this is subject matter for another post.

I can say this, if you're not using the same videos on your website that you have on YouTube, and you aren't directing traffic back to that website as well as to your other social media links, then you aren't fully utilizing the platform's capabilities.

YouTube video show up in search results, and the site itself has a powerful search engine built right in. If a video of yours is returned as a result, not directing that traffic is a missed opportunity.

The main advantage to having videos on your website, is that it increases user actions and time spent on site, which are both positive metrics to have. Embedded YouTube videos are also the most portable since YouTube makes every effort to make sure that their video is playable on as many machines as possible. That means that your videos will show up and play right from your site!

If you need help with adding video to your website, making or uploading video to YouTube, or in setting up links back to your website and other social media from YouTube, please give us a call. We'd be delighted to help.
